Balboa Park

I walked around Balboa Park in San Diego the other day.  What a beautiful park it is and the gardens, pools and museum buildings are exquisite.  Many of the structures were built for use during the Panama-California Exhibition of 1915.  Spanish Baroque was the architectural style chosen for these buildings.  The buildings have been well maintained and are homes to art galleries and natural history collections as well as modern art installations.  Enjoy walking around the grounds and watch out for the ducks.  There's a big bunch of them by the pond!!

another church

Here are pictures taken at another church I attended recently.  Very friendly people were in attendance  and the church had a welcoming feeling.  The sanctuary has a mid century contemporary look and the glass windows are lovely.  The minister gave a good sermon.  Happy Sunday!

300 and 1

I just love to put jigsaw puzzles together.  My sister and I were working on this candy theme puzzle. Actually, Susan did most of the work.  And, work she did!  There was one piece that belonged in a very specific section of the puzzle but there was no room for it.  No room, no way!  Very confusing.  However, upon closer inspection, it appears that there were two identical pieces included in the box.  Ah, no wonder the extra piece didn't fit.  There was no space for it or shall I say, the space was "occupied".  I always hope that all pieces of a puzzle are included in a puzzle box but I sometimes wonder if there will be a missing piece.  I have never gotten an extra piece.  Never.  But, it can and does happen.  Now you know.

the fairy trail

There is a special exhibit on display at the Chattahoochee Nature Center through the end of this month.  The fairies have invaded the woodland trail and set up residence in their little houses.  Take a walk along the pathway and this is what you will see.

Some of the fairies live in very small houses made out of an old lantern.  Sweet interior decoration!

This family of fairies found an abandoned bird house to live in.  Pine cone trees grow in the yard.

A cigar box will do as a bachelor pad.  Nice furnishings.  Very earthy color scheme.

This little house comes complete with an entertainment patio.  Nice picnic table and chairs!  The house up the road comes with its' own eco-friendly leaf roof.  All of the houses were thoughtfully designed with the wants and needs of the fairy community kept in mind.  As you walk the forest path, look closely.  There are fairy houses everywhere.  Keep your eyes open.  wink  wink

American Bald Eagle

I went to the Chattahoochee Nature Center yesterday and had a great time walking along the woodland paths and observing the wildlife.  There are two bald eagles in residence at the CNC.  Both of the birds were brought here for continued rehabilitation after having been injured.  The female eagle suffered a broken femur and other injuries as a young eagle.  The male suffered a broken wing and can only fly about 200 feet.  Due to their extensive injuries these regal birds can not be released into the wild.  The eagles are well taken care of with an annual upkeep expenditure of about $58,000.  The CNC has done a wonderful job with their rehabilitating efforts and continual care.  If you are in the Roswell, Georgia area, please consider spending some time in this naturally beautiful refuge.
